May The Odds Be EVER In Your Favor
For those of you who, like me wear proudly the golden Mockingjay pin, and are therefore a passionate Hunger Games Fan, you know that this craze is taking aim and captivating our nation. The story of The Girl On Fire and The Boy With The Bread is so incredibly written, and once you turn that first page, you shall never stop. Susanne Collins is a master in her craft, a specialist in suspense. Every chapter leaves you hungry for more 😉 I think that, like the story of our dear Harry Potter, this series (3 books in all) will be an instant classic and a story that is told for hundreds of years to come. a legacy of literature, a crossover of artistic integrity and popular culture is coming, and I could not be more thrilled. These are the kind of books that truly leave an impression.
So I present the first, in I’m sure, many poems about the phenomenon to come. Inspired by The Hunger Games, a short piece, “May The Mockingjay Fly Forever, ”
With the shine of golden mockingjay pins, the fight for our freedom, and lives begins.
A Girl On Fire will take aim against a colorful enemy’s cruel ire. With quick precision, we’ll make the decision to fly against our foes, strike hard against our hunger and woes, and we will not surrender to those who wear the rainbow wigs.
The Capitol can fall, but only if we don the emblem and hear the call…. The song of shattered candy hues of glass, echo in our midst, our freedom to live is nigh, sweet taste for which, we could have only wished!
Alongside our Leaders, Spirited Katniss, and Sweet Peeta, we will let our hearts and hungers lead us, and through our passions, they shall free us.
Down with the Capitol, we raise three fingers, to the girl that taught us all,
To fight for our rights, to fight for life, love, and other such worthy endeavors.
We sing a song of battle tonight.
May the Mockingjay Fly Forever.
*Written in Honor of The Hunger Games Movie Opening At Midnight Tonight*
Okay..I’m going to correct you on one tiny little thing….if there are three books it’s called a trilogy…not!…a series :P…just saying haha
Second…I haven’t read the books yet but I really enjoyed the movie…it made me want to read the book so I could get all of the details 😛
Third…(and I honestly don’t know why I’m writing like this tonight haha)…what made you want to write a poem about this?
Yes, my appologies, I meant trilogy, and I could not be happier that you enjoyed the movie! I hope it inspires many more to read the books 🙂 They’re all modern masterpieces, and I’m very excited to see how the rest of them will be adapted into motion pictures! If they continue to do the flawless job that they’ve done with the first one, we’re all soon to be witness to cinematic greatness and masterful artistry!
I was inspired to write a short poem about THE HUNGER GAMES not only because of hunger and hysteria the books, and now the movie, have acquired, but also because I think it’s an unforgettable story of bravery, undying love, SUSPENSE, and rebellion. Katniss Everdeen inspires me, and although I will admit, strangely, I didn’t much like her at the book’s beginning, she has become an icon, a fearless role model to me, and one of the greatest characters in literary history. This book felt so real, and I never knew I could feel so much, grow so much, endure so much, in just three books. As a reader, I’ve caught the hunger, and as writer, I’ve never been more in awe.
For nearly 10 years, Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl has been my favorite movie of all time. Since I was 13, nothing has ever even come close to that feeling of experiencing the sublime, going somewhere you’ll never forget, an adventure, a memory you’ll carry with you, your whole life. And while Pirates will ALWAYS be a most cherished and beloved film to me, THE HUNGER GAMES has ascended to take its place. It’s not easily done, rising above my most favored of films, but THE HUNGER GAMES has done it, and I suppose this is my way, the writer’s way, of standing and applauding.
You also said that you almost liked the series better than Harry Potter during class today….are you serious??? how could it be better than HP??? haha….I’m only saying that because I’m a huge HP fan and even though I do like other series/trilogies/etc., nothing I read is better than that series haha 😛
Oh no, haha I believe you are referring to when my friend Bry proclaimed that his love for Hunger Games far exceeded that of Harry Potter which initially peaked my interest 🙂 As far as books go, Hunger Games is incredible, nothing in the world like it, and has captured the attention of the world. While I can say without a doubt it is indeed my favorite trilogy, my favorite series will always be Harry Potter. As a proud alumni of Hogwarts, Harry Potter gave me a home, three best friends, and yes an often imagined boyfriend 😉 (Malfoy) and when I read it, I felt this attuned sense of belonging. In short, although I adore The Hunger Games, the masterful suspense, the unprecedented dynamic of Katniss Everdeen’s character, the sweet infalliable beauty of Peeta Mellark, Harry Potter holds a place in my heart that shall not soon be taken. 🙂
oooh right okay, yeah i probably heard that wrong 😛
Harry Potter changed my life, pretty much. I am fairly certain that I would not be the same person if I hadn’t read them. At the very least I wouldn’t be the same writer, because I feel like J.K. Rowling inspired me more than any other writer. Except maybe Stephen King. In my head I have dreams of someday being something that blends King and Rowling into something new and awesome. 🙂
just out of curiosity, how would you not be who you are now if you wouldn’t have ever read the Harry Potter books?
and if you ever come out with something that blends King and Rowling together that’d be amazing! and very interesting to read haha
It is hard to say for certain, because when I started reading them I was still forming my own identity, but there is such a . But the whole idea of a magical world living parallel or maybe underneath our own has definitely influenced my writing style. Before I read HP I was very much into medieval/feudal sword and sorcery type stories, but after reading Rowling, with some definite influences from “urban fantasy” writing from Laurell K. Hamilton and gritty horror from King, has created a desire in me to write something that has the capability of meaning more. Though sword and sorcery novels can definitely have universal elements, they are usually more metaphorical or in the theme rather than in the actual events. Or course, when including supernatural elements it is always going to remove it from real life to an extent, but my goal is to keep it as real as possible, if that makes sense.
Yeah it does…I was just curious, because I’ve heard people say that before and it just never really made any sense. I see what you mean with the whole idea of there being a magical world living parallel universe (or where ever you were going with that), I personally love the idea that there’s another world other than ours. It gives a very open idea and allows imagination to run in any direction it wants.
So, the sentence that stopped in the middle was supposed to say this: There is such an undercurrent of nobility and self-sacrifice throughout the series that I am sure that it affected me in some way. However, if I hadn’t been so captivated by the characters and the situations, it wouldn’t have been nearly as effective.
it’s great how much passion you have for your writing. you don’t have any fear or any restrictions and thats great. that’s what writing is all about to me, just letting it all out. rock on pirate lass.
Awwwww thank you Shannon! I’m blushing! I shall rock on and cannot thank you enough for your wondrously sweet comment! ^_^ Yes, for me writing is about having a passion, letting your imagination run wild and take you away with it! Writing for me is as essential as breathing, and there is nothing I love more, nothing that makes me feel the way I do, when I pick up a pen, or poise my fingers over the keys. It is art. Thank you too for your comments Rob and Sela, I am always honored to be in the presence of fellow Hogwarts alumni! Harry Potter too changed my life, and gave me my three best friends, along with a most beloved boyfriend, who I find the constant captain of both dreams and day dreams (Draco Malfoy)
Similarily Hunger Games changed my life yet again, and I think both of them to be instant classics. Harry Potter is my favorite series, Hunger Games, my favorite trilogy. Harry Potter is the pies de resistance of Fantasy Utopian Fiction, while Hunger Games is its Fantasy Distopian counterpart. Peeta is my beloved, and cherished crush, but he will always belong to Katniss. I’m convinced Draco Malfoy is my fictional soulmate. Both works have given me so much, so I attempt to honor them and offer up my poems and writings of them as tribute.
